Biography
DeVaré (Deh-vah-ree) hails from the parish of St. Thomas on the beautiful island of Jamaica. The multi-talented singer/songwriter has been singing and performing to intimate audiences between Jamaica and the U.S. professionally for more than 15 years.
His penchant for love ballads is what motivates him to write songs that celebrate the love of a woman from the man’s perspective. Therefore, he tends to write songs appreciative of that bond between a man and a woman, even when that love and that bond sometimes go awry. DeVaré once stated, he doesn’t go looking for a song to write, the song comes to him. Consequently, there are times when motivational songs pop up on his radar, although his main song ingredient is dominantly love-themed.
His musical influencers span many genres, ranging from the King of Lover’s Rock, Beres Hammond, and reggae greats, Alton Ellis, Gregory Isaacs, Delroy Wilson, and Dennis Brown. His R&B influencers include but are not limited to the all-time greats he grew up listening to like Sam Cook, Otis Redding, Bobby Womack, Brook Benton, and James Brown, to name a few. However, DeVaré has stated that he is self-motivated and sought to create his own style, rather than emulate anyone. His R&B/Loversrock influences are evident in his writing syle, and his crooning style of delivery, evident in his songs.
DeVaré has also stated that his songs cover versions or original material, and are inspired by his lifelong observation of people. Hence, even if he covers a song, he has to make it his with his delivery and his approach to the original music and melody. He generally does not use his platform for social commentary, unless this is what the inspiration is when it comes to him, as he doesn’t resist the inspiration.
Time spent isolated due to the Covid-19 pandemic has led DeVaré to venture into the world of producing. This co-production effort is available everywhere music is sold, by way of the album he co-produced with his manager, Natalie Lawrence, called “Essences of Life” (The Skylight Riddim), an 8-song effort with him as one of the featured artistes.
DeVaré’s debut single, “This Ya Love Is Here To Stay,” and a few other songs since, has enjoyed tremendous airplay in Jamaica, South Florida, New York, the UK, as well as rotations in Europe. He has a catalogue of over 22 songs already released and 2 albums. His debut EP being “Diamond in the Ruff” and sophomore album “Reflections” boasts a collection of “his parents music” as covers made as a tribute to them and the music he listened to while growing up, along with the gems he wrote and had original music played live. They are available everywhere music is streamed and or sold.
